Maryland REAL ID Updates

To reduce wait times for Maryland REAL ID cards, the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration is extending service hours at seven branch offices beginning Tuesday, May 7th. With only a year and half left, the Maryland MVA plans on taking on an additional 3,000 appointments a day statewide to help meet the deadline of October 2020.

The MVA informs its residents “The process of obtaining your permanent REAL ID credential can prove time-consuming and tedious. You must present full documentation proving identity, and only original versions or certified copies of the required documents will be accepted”.

Residents will need the following documents in order to obtain their new ID cards:

  • Proof of age and identity
  • Proof of Social Security
  • Proof of Maryland residency
